MERGED AREAS EDUCATION FOUNDATION (MEF) is created as an autonomous organization to undertake educational initiatives in the Newly Merged Districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The vision of MEF is to provide access to enabling education through strengthening public educational delivery system and public-private partnership to focus on marginalized and the disadvantaged. MEF works as catalyst for provision of enabling education with the motto of creating learning opportunities.
The notification for the establishment of Foundation was issued in December, 2004. The Honorable President of Pakistan signed Regulation 2010 of the Foundation in March, 2010.
Managing Director’s Message
Merged areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is faced with multiple complexities in the education sector. Nearly two third of the school aged children are being denied their right to basic education. Girls constitute ninety seven percent of them. Poor quality of teachers, inadequate infrastructure, teacher absenteeism and inhospitable work environment coupled with poor governance has caused public education system near collapse. There are some good private institutions but their number is not sufficient enough to bring significant difference. Merge Areas Education Foundation has been created to bridge the gaps in the delivery of public and private education system.
It gives me immense pleasure to appreciate the staffs of the Foundation who are working hard for promoting the vision of Foundation in MDs. Their efforts are especially praiseworthy as they are working in a very challenging environment. Let me assure that their efforts will not go waste.
To achieve its goals Foundation provides free quality education to talented and poor students in quality educational institutions outside MDs. It promotes model schools as bench mark of quality institutions in the area. It arranges training for enhancing capacity of the stake holders of education in MDs. Improvement of infrastructure facilities in educational institutions is in another area that the Foundation has been contributing.
The Foundation is preparing for launching an ambitious public private partnership initiative that will have a far reaching impact on the quality, access and governance of private education in MDs. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chairman of the Foundation, for his commitment to the cause of the Foundation and continuous support in realizing its vision. We promise to uphold the cause of education by making untiring efforts in pursuit of our objectives.
